Requirements for a business visa

I want to stay in Vietnam beyond my current 90 day visa. The business visa option is very attractive to me.

I'm 68 years old. Retired for the past 8 years. I have a USA passport.

I can find ZERO information on the requirements for a one year business visa.. nothing.. In English on any cónsul website.. Nothing on any vietnam government website. It's a secret?

So I asked the vietnam cónsul in San Francisco.. Here is their reply to my question "what qualifies as having a business"

"If you have invitation from partner company in Viet Nam, you are eligible to apply for business visa."

An invitation? That's it? So any travel agent can invite me... Same same as my current tourist visa!

I do have a legit online business... But other than that.. Nada.

Can anyone shed more light on this topic... Especially links to the legality of a" business visa ". Thanks

Use the search function.

This subject is regularly discussed.

We are not supposed to promote individual Visa agents here in the forum.

If you want the contact info for my agent, send me a private message.

Meanwhile, don't overthink it

Google DN visa.  Since you are 68 and 8 years retired I’m going to let you review the risks and pitfalls of the DN visa on your own and you can decide if you want to take the risk seeing as you are only applying for it for the visa benefit.  Do a search here on the keyword “blacklist” before you get the visa.

Thanks for your replies.

I have searched this forum and the only results I found did indeed mention "blacklisted".

Nowhere did I see a post that my question addressed ..a link to the Vietnamese law regarding business visa requiremnts.  ...in English or Vietnamese.

With regard to searching "DN Visa" yes... I already did this.. visa services can get me a business visa..but again...the requirements are not explained in detail!

As for my age. What does that have to do with anything? ..and 8 years retired ..yes i am..again..how is this relevant to my question?

Did you read where I stated that I had contacted the Vietnam consul in SFO?

The comment We are not supposed to promote individual Visa agents here in the forum.". Fine, this is of course understood. I never asked you to.

Like my post stated, the topic of the actual legal requirements for obtaining a business visa seem to be a secret. The answers I have gotten thus far are also cryptic. ha ha.

Here is a very recent post of mine:

If, after reading that, you need further clarification, please send me a private message.

For many reasons, I am simply very tired of discussing this issue here in the forum.

Go for it:

ARTICLES OF LAW ENTRY, EXIT, TRANSIT, RESIDENCE OF FOREIGNERS IN VIETNAM

When you find those requirements detailed to your satisfaction, let us know.

Because you clearly aren't asking about how to set up a business, and your age plus your own statement that you are retired (plus reading your other forum posts on your profile) makes it pretty clear that you are primarily looking to get what will be for you--in essence--a retirement visa.

Yes, and the "detailed" response you got from them is virtually identical to the "detailed" response you will read when you translate the law.

You asked for information.

My agent in Hanoi (where immigration is centralized) is my most trusted source for information on how the Category DN 12-Month Business Visa for U.S. Citizens works.

Perhaps that's because you are essentially asking to read and interpret the law yourself.

IF you want to know how that visa works in reality, read my post I linked to above.

Cheers!

OK, I will be more blunt this time.  You are trying to game the system with a business visa.  You have no legitimate reason to obtain one.  Those that are here on DN visas for the intended purpose are the ones that eventually suffer because people try to use a DN visa for a retirement visa and it gets harder and harder to get one for legitimate reasons.  You may have read that in July even the 1 year tourist visa will require a border run every 30 days instead of 90 and you may be trying to avoid that.  That new 30 rule is a reaction by the Vietnamese government to people abusing the tourist visa so they in turn make it more difficult for everyone.  People that use the DN visa for its intended purpose don't want to see people start to abuse that one and make their lives more difficult.
