Homeschooling in Saudi Arabia

Hello everyone,

Homeschooling your children as an expat in Saudi Arabia will definitely come with its load of challenges. Here is a special call to parents who are already homeschooling their children or who plan on doing so to share any information they might have.

Should you opt for homeschooling, is it legal in Saudi Arabia ? Do you require to register your child or do you need any kind of permission / exemption from the authorities ?  If it is not legal, what alternative option/s do you have ?

How do you go about getting all the necessary educational resources (books, syllabus, notes etc…) to pursue your children's education in Saudi Arabia ? Does it depend on the curriculum ?

What do you add in your homeschooling techniques to help educate your child that might not be offered or available in traditional schooling ?

How do you socialise homeschooled children in Saudi Arabia by providing them opportunities to interact with other children ?

If you have any interest in homeschooling, could you please share your views on the pros and cons ?

Thank you for sharing your experience,
Bhavna

I'm sure there is a ton of info online, but the best resource I know for any educational alternative is the Alternative Education Resource Organization (AERO).  Here is a list of homeschooling sites from their site: http://www.educationrevolution.org/stor … ives/home/

Thanks you for posting this topic, as expat schooling at home is a challenge and it can be done with a lot of resources available online, but regarding the schooling for disabled children its very difficult to pick schools.
The number of school for special children can be counted on fingers and my experience almost all of them all running as financial institutions.
Without mentioning the name of the school, i have a daughter who need special education since she cannot go to regular schools. The first six months it seem to be fine but then we started feeling that the development of my daughter and the therapy is not as effective as it should be so i had to take her out. there might be other schools for special needs but all of them are Arabic language oriented which is of no need for us as foreigners.

Thanks for messaging, IT is a great job for home schooling  ofchildren for the parents, but it is not difficult to homeschooling for children in SAUDI Arabia.

The only problem with homeschooling here is the availability of AFFORDABLE extracurricular activities. All the clubs and programs are terribly expensive so kids wind up extremely bored.

I'm also looking for homeschooling groups in dhahran/ dammam and social groups , its very difficult :(

is there any Chinese home school groups? im teaching my kids mandarin and I want them to play and talk the language as well

thank you all
