Best cities for retirement in Sweden

Hello everyone,

An increasing amount of people want to spend their retirement abroad. Would you consider giving a few tips to those looking into Sweden for their retirement?

What are the most attractive cities for retirees in Sweden?

Why are these the best cities in Sweden for retirement (quality of life, cost of living, climate, health, security, etc.)?

Are there any specific areas in Sweden where there are special retirement schemes or retirement-friendly residential areas?

Are there any activities suitable for retirees in Sweden?

Do you have any tips on where to start looking or how to choose a suitable city for one's retirement in Sweden?

If you have, yourself, chosen to spend your retirement abroad, please tell us what city you have chosen and why?

Please share your experience.

Every city has almost everything other cities have and also something special to offer so hard to pick few out of those, it depends on personal choice.

Normally people like to live mixed with pensioners, families with children, singles and so on so as to my knowledge there are no any specific pensioner's areas. But some villages in northern Sweden have automatically become pensioner's areas since others leave the area for major cities where they easily can find jobs, pensioners don't have that issue so only they stay.

The Swedish association for senior citizens and some other organisations have their local branches around the country and organize frequently different kind of activities.

Germans like to buy old farmhouses in Sweden to use as their summerhouses, many of them are about to retire. What they do is first come here with their caravans and travel around the country for few summer vacations until they find their dream place, in the mean time they get a chance to practice their Swedish language skills. I think that is a keen way to find a good retirement place in Sweden.
