Bankruptcy in Brasil

Does anyone know if going bankrupt here in Brasil could have any effect on a permanent resident visa ?
No renewal ever needed by virtue of age. All the debts would be to Brasilian loan shark banks. Residency is by virtue of stable union with a Brasileira for almost seven years.

You must be referring to expulsion of foreigners with permanent visa out of Brazil upon committing acts of premeditated crimes against the state.

In your case, you fall under the Civil Code if you ever declare insolvency or bankruptcy and not under the Penal Code that punishes crimes and later expulsion.

Please refer to Article 75 on the first link about people married to a Brazilian for 5 years. You are immune.

However, if you declare bankruptcy, the bank would try proceedings to be compensated like liquidation of assets or holding cosigners or partners to be responsible for said debt.

The court responsible would demand that you structure a payment procedure to repay the bankers. If evidence shows no possibility of repayment, your debts might be forgiven altogether...
