Cost of living 2019 in Cambodia

I love to share, but I just here for a few weeks, some cost hasn't come yet.
I'll share what I got in hand.

How much does it cost to rent an apartment or a house in Cambodia? How about buying an apartment or a house in Cambodia? --> 1bedroom with full funiture: 550$/month

How much do you pay on average for public transportation (bus, subway, train, tram, taxi)? --> 1-2$/trip

How much do you pay for basic food items such as rice, bread, and pasta?
--> 3-4$/meal

What is your monthly budget for groceries?
--> I think around 200$

How much do you pay for electricity/gas/water etc., per month?
--> waiting till the end of the month

How much do you pay for your internet and phone subscription?
--> internet: included with the apartment rental cost
--> phone: 30$/month

How much do you pay for your lunch pack on weekdays?
--> 3-4$/meal

How much do you pay for an espresso coffee?
--> 2$

How much does a gym membership cost in Cambodia?
--> included with the apartment rental cost.

Hello everyone, Been in Phnom Penh a year and know about the cost of things. Remember I try to live more local than completely western, but i do need the conveniences like AC and a burger and pizza every so often  . I teach at local school 3 km from home in stung mean chey.


How much does it cost to rent an apartment or a house in Cambodia? How about buying an apartment or a house in Cambodia?

I rent one bedroon in a non expat area but the building has expats like us. 200$ a month. Cable and internet included. Elevator too. But no washing machine. That is ok. I wash smalls by hand and spend 2$ a weel on wash and press for shirts and pants. It is third apartment i had. 3 month lese, 6 month lease, and this one is 1 year. I have year contract at school now so ok.

How much do you pay on average for public transportation (bus, subway, train, tram, taxi)?

To and from work 15$ a week. Maybe 40$ tops a month for other trips. 100$ total

How much do you pay for basic food items such as rice, bread, and pasta?  I cook and buy veggies and fruits from streets. A few flies on them but they are way fresher than stores. Rise is 2000 kg, bread is 3000 a loaf or 500 or 1000 reil for french bread, pasta is a dollar or so a lb bag.  Mayonaise i and other westetn stuff expensive so i use sparingly. Mayo 2.50 a jar, and most condiments a dollar or two for a can or bottle. Meat fish and chicken i get 50% off at 3$ a kg at luckys or buy at local market same price.

What is your monthly budget for groceries? I budget 160$ a month including drinks cheese and other conveniences.

How much does it cost to see a doctor or health specialist in Cambodia?

I see a pharmacist first for free, and make sure they have a doctor in family. I paid 20$ for a doctor visit with a strep throat lab.

How much do you pay for health insurance per month?

N/a. I pay 40$ a month repatriiation insurance.  Cheaper to pay doctors than real insurance.

How much does childcare cost on average per month?

N/a



How much do you pay for electricity/gas/water etc., per month?

All togeter 30$-50$ a month

How much do you pay for your internet and phone subscription?

8$ for 40gb data on phone and add 4 $ a month for calls.

Will get internet at home, hispeed wifi next month, metphone. 15$ a month including install and equipment.

How much do you pay for your lunch pack on weekdays?

1 $ a day  with drinks, i make myself. 5$ a week

How much do you pay for an espresso coffee?  1.25$

How much do you pay for a cinema ticket?

Dont go. I watch on netflix 7$ a month.

How much does a gym membership cost in Cambodia?

Daily workout gym 1.$ a day, no pool. Pool free at many hotels. Maybe 15 times a month.

I get 6 month visa for $150 and fly out every six month for 70$ roundtrip. I spend $100 on the ground
On a good month i can be comfortable spending 700$ a month, but normally 850$ a month and that leaves me money to play with.

I dont drink out, and maybe a six pack a week at home.

It is possible to be comfortable on 750$ a month and eat very good.

It seems very good cost. Mine is too expensive, I'm using smart btw.

Sure vivien.  I do not make many voice calls accept over line or whattsapp, so I can keep that part down.  I also am with smart but I have the power saver plus 8 plan at 8$ a month. You pay 2 cents a minute for regular calls and get messaging free. You get 40 gb total of 4 g internet. And you can hotspot  a tablet easily off the service.  But remember in some parts of town it drops to 3 g.

You can go to any of the big smart service agents in aeon 1 or 2 or on monivong or at sorya and they will set it up no mistakes. If 40gb not enough and you need to computer at home, get metphone 15 $ a month plan at home wifi and router and do all your computing there. It is pretty hispeed.

I have been in Cambodia for 14 months now.
I rent an apartment for $500 per month in the riverside area, the apartment is 3 bedroom with one being an open bedroom (there are deals out there but you have too look for them)
My electric runs around $50 a month, water is $5 per month. Wi-Fi and Cable TV cost $10 per month.

My food budgets runs between $80 to $150per month , depending on what I want to eat and possible guests. I buy all my veggies at local market as well as eggs and most of my meat.I usually buy cheese, dried beans, milk, cereal and oat meal from Lucky's.

I do eat out a few times per month and average $5 for breakfast. $7 - $15 for dinner. I have noticed lately that some places have raised their prices and cut their menu's. It seems that competition is heating up so I expect to see restaurants closing in the next year.

I typically walk most places if I need to use transportation I use PassApp  which saves alot of money as it is 3500 Riel per km.  Do my transportation costs are maybe $5 to $10 per month.

I do like to go out a little bit each month, especially if I am between relationships.
Beer is cheap at most bars or restaurants/pubs
But several have gone up to $2 for draft been after happy hours. If you want to buy a lady a drink most bars and pubs charge $3.50 again some have gone up.

Other than going out a bit I travel when I can within the country I use local type transport or busses the price varies with vans from $5 to $10 to most places but they are crowded. For longer trips or for comfort I use a service such as larytta and trips usually run around $7 to $12 depending on where you want to go. Their destinations are limited.

Gym typically costs around $70 per month or $600 for a year membership. I take Khmer lessons and they run $120 per month

My husband and I have been living in Siem Reap for 3 months.
We rent a studio of around 70 square meters (no pool) for $310/month, that includes the bottle of gas and wifi.

Our electricity bill is around $33/month but will go up according to the heat as we use more A/C.

Water is $2.50 for 5 cubic meters

Drinking water is $0.75 for 5 gallons.

Food and drinks in a restaurant cost average between $6 and $18 for 2 people (we are vegetarians).

Draft beer is $0.50 in most bars, some bars will charge $1 for it.

Bread is expensive: $1 for a French bread, $3 for a bread with cereals.
Butter cost around $3.50 to $4 and 200gr of cheese will cost around $4.50.

We buy most of our food at the organic store near us, $15 is a max for the week.
10 free range organic eggs cost $2.50

Going out for drinks to a restaurant cost about $6 to $10 for beers and fresh lime juice, depending on the amount of beers we drink, no draft beer served.

We mostly walk everywhere but a tuk tuk will cost $2 to cross the city.

I forgot the cinema and a couple of other things.

Cinema ticket for adults: $7 to 14 depending on the amount of D (2D, 3D, 4D)
We are seniors so we pay $1.50 for 2D to $2.50 for the rest of the Ds.

No health insurance, cheaper to pay a doc. My husband just got a hearing aid for both ears at an NGO: total cost $800 for both including a sophisticated hearing test.

Yoga class $6 per hour.

Most pools are free, but Cambo beach (30m long pool surrounded by a beach) cost $5 per person, but they deduct it from your drinks and food.

An Americano coffee cost around $2 depending on the type of coffee shop.
