Residency and car insurance

Hi

I am British and live in the province of Pisa.

I own a British car with British plates. My car insurance is about to expire.
I have an opportunity to become a resident here.

I have a fiscale codiche and a rental contract. I also have a bank account that the manager told me wouldn't become active unless I was a resident.

My question is, do I need to become a resident in order to: pay car insurance here and in the future buy an Italian car?

What are the benefits of becoming a resident?

I would appreciate any advice. Thank you

You need residency to own an Italian car in your name.
Beware: transfer of ownership is quite expensive, it could easily cost 500 € (it depends on the car's power). You get all done at an ACI office.

Thank you Janin.

But, do I need residency to take out insurance in Italy on my British car?
So in the meantime what do I do about paying for the insurance. For example, do I just renew my policy in the UK?

I doubt that an Italian insurance will cover a British registered car, but you can try.
