Refundable of Advance for Office space-Regarding

Hi guys...I am from Oman and recently booked an office space for rent by giving an advance of OMR.50/- to person appointed by the landlord. Later, my company has changed the idea of shifting the office and i had been told to refund the advance back from that person. However, when i visited their office to refund back the advance, they refused to give back the advance money, saying that it is not refundable as they waited for us for a period of 20 days. I just wanna know whether it is refundable or not as per the law? Thanks!

no you cant after 20 days and the amount is very small

Hi jamizrahim,

The very purpose of taking an advance amount is to get some sort of assurance that the commitment would be met and not cancelled after a couple of days.

The advance amount is also meant to be a deterrent for people from not showing up afterwards, after committing to take a property on rent / lease.

So if the landlord has declined to return your advance amount (whether small or big), he is correct in doing so. And you can well kiss that amount goodbye.
