Health Insurance over 65

I now have all the information for those looking for Medical insurance over age 65.  Anyone can subscribe to this program, not just over 65.

It is a good plan with  Air Ambulance inside the country,  ground ambulance,  DENTAL,  basic eye coverage and good all around coverage. Includes 5,000 RD per day when in hospital, all costs of meds, tests etc while there.  Copay applies while not in hospital 80 to 85%.

The current premium up to age 69 is 2,284 RD per month per person.  It does not have prescription coverage at this price!

If you are interested  message me here or privately and I will let you know how to enroll!

What is available for us older folk, over 70?  Seppecu ? (sp)  I know.

I can apply for it but the premium is higher. I believe it will be  3,426 RD per month.

Hi do you what the added cost would be to cover prescriptions

Even with adding on prescription coverage, this sounds excellent. Of course I have no idea what amount that extra coverage will be but going with the general flow, it should be quite doable....

Hi,  just had a question is the other plan still available if you are under 65? And if so what is the cost of that one? Just wondering how much difference between the 2 plans if someone is not 65 yet, or is this plan replacing the previous one?

Canuk -  are you under 65?  My other plan with prescription coverage and dental is  2,400 RD per person per month or lesser plan for 1,900 RD per month.

For those asking - with most insurance plans you MUST apply before age 65. They will cover you after age 65 but will not let you apply.

This new plan is geared for those close to or over age 65!  I cannot add prescription coverage to this it is just not worth the extra cost.

to be clear - I am offering two different group plans.

Is there anywhere I can go and read the actual plan?

Do you speak Spanish honey?  Most of the info is in spanish.   I can email you a synopsis of the coverage in English so send me privately your email.

By the way,  this is part of what I did in my previous life so I used that experience to get the best most cost effective plans!

It appears to be serving you - and us - very well - thanks very much...

Siempre

My husband is fluent so he can. I will message you my Yahoo email if that is ok?

Hello
I know you have posted much on this coverage but I can't seem to get any assistance in English.
Mapfre has sent me coverages for the Plans (Prestige covering all) but nothing showing prescription medication costs.  My parents are age 63 and 69 (soon) and we are looking to move there but both are currently on medications that they will need assistance with.
I am now sitting on the phone long distance to Mapfree on Spanish line with no answer after 20 mins.
Please help with any additional information you may have to share.
Thank you
Michelle

Hi Michelle.  I will send you a PM.

I have to get back to doing something about this. At least apply.  Hell,  I might be 65 before we get back there!  Jeje :)

Thank you again.  This broker is very helpful and replies quickly.

Thank you

@vkathy59 sorry I thought I was writing private to the planner. Read all the instructions. Agree to them

Thank you

You can contact Yunen. That is the name of the insurance company.  In my opinion it's not good coverage and it's expensive.  It may be better than nothing.

What no one has mentioned so far is that some Doctors & Clinics (private hospitals) will not accept ALL health insurance plans.  So, my standard advice to clients has always been to work backwards.  In other words, find a Doctor & private hospital that YOU like and then find out what insurance plans, companies they will accept or deal with.  I know of a few Doctors here in Santo Domingo that will NOT take any insurance at all for office visits, they want you to pay cash. With that said of course the average cost for an office visit with a specialist can range from RD$2,500 to RD$3,500

For prescriptions or any pharmacy purchases I can suggest GBC Pharmacy.  They are small but growing and they OFFER DISCOUNTS when paying cash.  The larger pharmacy chains of course are still Carol & Hidalgos.  Just keep in mind, there are some very good locally made products which are going to be less expensive (Ibuprophen, Feltrex Laboratories) but the latest tendency has been generics from India. So always ask to see different brands including generics when buying anything and of course make your decisions.

Regards, John

I will respectfully disagree. I would look for the options that are much more widely accepted.  Then make sure your Plan level offers reimbursement if you go where they do not accept insurance.

Now to what I agree with, good advice about pharmacies.  Add Farmavalu to the list. Always 20 % discount.  Not sure if they are all over the country, so look them up!

For the complicated or difficult to find I prefer Carol pharmacy.

Hi everybody, does anybody knows what is a "Colectivo health insurance"?

Sounds like a group insurance.  It's only as good as how the group is managed.  In a group rates will be based on the group usage and experience.

@planner thank you

Better get coverage before you are 70.  After that, SENASA  is about your only affordable option locally.

@snowinpalm Does Senasa is a good health insurance?

Very basic and minimal coverage.  Get something with better limits if you qualify.  It's all I can get at age 76 unless I get one of the real expensive international plans.

Its lousy coverage in my opinion and barely better than nothing!

@snowinpalm it is sad.that they don't have more alternatives for health insurance.

I know this.is not the subject, but Mapfre is quoting us car insurance but it is so high, higher than USA. I can believe it. Is there other car insurance companies that I can use?

There are many.  Insurance for cars is on average more expensive.  Contact a broker and ask to quote various companies!
