Hi there,

Which are your 10 favorite places to go out in Porto?

Which places would you recommend to newcomers? (restaurants, pubs, discos, theaters, cinemas, concert halls...)

Thanks!

Hi! Cafe Imperio, R. S. Catarina, near Majestic, half the price, where the ladies gather and chatter. Cafe Novo, Pr. Republica, very varied clientele. Bufete Rapide, R. Martires de Liberdade (top), 3.50 lunch, plate, soup, drink. Progresso for the juices. Churrasqueira Brasil, near Photographic museum, Clerigos, local boys make sure nothing bad happens. My friend Lurdes runs Cafe Fenix, R. VitoRia/R. Ferraz, between Clerigos and the riverside. Drop in!

Hey there!

Restaurante Istambul, between the "praça dos Poveiros" and the "praça da Batalha" ("praça" means square, for the non-portuguese readers): nice and humble people that'll always serve good food with a smile :)

Café Majestic, for those who don't mind spending a bit more to enjoy this lovely shop in "rua de Sta. Catarina"

Maus Hábitos (not far from the Majestic), in front of the Coliseu do Porto: a nice place to chill with a splendid view over the city of Porto.

Contagiarte, near the praça da Republica: reggae on wednsday nights, folk on thursdays and rock on saturdays.

Piolho: local name for the square "Parada Leitão", due to the famous bar where the whole city meets at night. Near the clérigos.

Galerias de Paris: between the Clerigos and the Avenida dos Aliados.

Sahara: themed bar by porto's riverside, definitely a good place for an intimate soirée.

Praça do cubo: Square on the riverside with a lot of bars, very well-known for its popularity at night.

Avenida dos Aliados: the main avenue of porto, has a stumbling architecture, and the whole area around it has a lot of places you'll love to discover (personal favourites: Rua de Ceuta, Rua de Santa Catarina, São Bento and the Clérigos).

Rua Miguel Bombarda: old downtown, still has a lot of galleries and coffee shops worth discovering ("rota do chá" comes to mind).

Palácio de Cristal (I know, that makes 11 places): gorgeous garden, big library :)

There's a lot more places but these were the first that came to mind.

Have fun!
