Registering a birth in Bolivia

Hello everyone,

Have you had to or are you going to register a birth in Bolivia? What was the experience like?

Who is required to register the birth, and where? Can it be either the mother or father?

What documents are usually required in Bolivia?

How long does the process to register a birth take? Are there any time limits in which the registration must be completed?

Did you register the birth with your home country and how did that process compare? Will your child be able to have dual nationality?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Priscilla

My process was quite straight forward because the child was born in Bolivia. What we needed was:

1. Both parents' identity cards (had to prove that we had voted, or go to SERECI and get a special docuement).
2. Photocopies of the parents' identity cards
3. 2 witnesses.
4. Photocopies of the witnesses' identity cards
5. Certificate of 'born alive'

According to the law, the process is supposed to be free but the registration centres always find a reason to charge for something.
