Look in a Small towns outside Malaga

Post new topic

We are Steve and Dee looking for a nice small town that would be a good place to relocate to for a couple of expats from Texas by way of Panama. We are looking for information regarding nice small towns outside of Malaga at 5,000 feet or higher elevation. We are considering relocating to Europe where previously lived during the 70's. We will be traveling there later this year during late Fall. It would be great to find good internet and local services in a friendly place with low crime. Thank you for any suggestion.

Hi, we moved to Archidona a month ago, which pretty much ticks all your boxes.  It's a really  pretty town, just the right size, very friendly, has all the services you need, a nice range of restaurants and bars, shops, supermarkets, etc.  Lots of pretty  properties to buy or rent, all walking distance from the heart of the town.  It's famous for its unique octagonal plaza, and the town has lots of festivals, including the Easter procession  during Santa Semana.  It's has a great location, 45 minutes inland and up higher from Malaga, 40 minutes to Granada, just over an hour from Cordoba,  just under two hours from Sevilla and an hour and 20 from La Ronda.  There is a nearby lake (Iznajar) which has a beach  for swimming or walking.  Twenty minutes from here is also the larger town of Antequera, which you should also consider, and this has a modern railway station for the high speed trains to the big cities.

Happy hunting

Alcalá La Real. This Spanish town has everything including a magnificent Moorish castle. It's at the bottom tip of Jaén province. 1.45 minutes from the coast. 45 minutes from Granada and 1.30 minutes to Córdoba. There are lots of lovely properties to rent or buy in the town and surrounding area. If you want real, authentic rural Spain but with all amenities, then this place is perfect.

Good luck with your property search and I hope that you find somewhere special of your own. Lottie
