Suggestions on where to look for a retirement home

My wife and I are considering retiring in the DR we have a sailboat and plan on doing some cruising also. I would like to be near the beach or easy drive to the where our boat would be suggestions on marinas would also be nice. We like growing my own food small farm maybe house big garden area. We are not big city people like to have things to do but mostly happy with a nice breeze cold drink and a great view. We will have about $4000 a month and will probably pay cash for our house as we will be selling the one here. We should get around 500k for our current house. Is this a pipe dream or possible?

Thanks

Welcome to the forums!  First please less personal financial details on a public board.   :)

Luperon on the north coast has a nice safe harbor and a nice little community nearby.   You are about an hour from  Puerto Plata for shopping and services and about an hour from the much larger city of Santiago!   Its a great boaters community, I have several friends living there.

Thank you very much.

Welcome,  Lots if information here
Yes you can live your dream here
Luperon is one of the only "natural hurricane holes in the Caribbean.  Lots of expats here on the north coast.

Hello fkwins,

Some choose to live near mayor medical facilities. These are typically found in the more populated cities like Santo Domingo and Santiago. Some of the areas with high concentrations of foreigners also have opened medical facilities that cater to this group such as in Sosua, Las Terrenas, and Bavaro. Yet you will be able to find inexpensive medical care almost anywhere at the local public hospitals especially for minor infirmities.

Here are some of the top private medical facilities in the Dominican Republic:

HOMS - Santiago (http://www.homshospital.com/index.php?lang=en)
Clinica Abreu - Santo Domingo (http://clinicaabreu.com.do/)
CEDIMAT - Santo Domingo (http://www.cedimat.com/en/)
among others

Santiago is about 1 and a half hours away from Puerto Plata.
