The holiday season in Kazakhstan

Hello everyone,

Are you about to celebrate the holiday season in Kazakhstan? In many countries and cultures, the festive season is the time for happiness and reunions/gatherings. Is it so in Kazakhstan? How do Kazakhstanis celebrate this very special time of the year?

What about you? Will you spend the holiday season in your host country or in your home country? Will there be expat reunions/celebrations/parties in your region/town/area?

Thank you in advance for sharing!

Priscilla

The holiday season in Kazakhstan is very busy time as in many countries. People work hard, shop hard and prepare for parties. In Kazakhstan people celebrate new year eve, not Christmas. Christian people who are actually Orthodox celebrate Christmas in January.

Hello Priscilla and All
Around the whole people are gearing up for the coming Christmas and welcoming the New year. In Kazakhstan, they do not celebrate Christmas dated on the 25th December and it is not a public holiday. However, the Christmas here is dated on the 7th January and this day is a public holiday. Kazakhstan still follows the Orthodox Christian calendar.
So while around the whole they are on holiday, it is a working day for us in Kazakhstan. Maybe one day they will make 25th Dec a public holiday as the other corners of the world people are resting. As for my family and I, we are Christians and we follow the 25th Dec date. We will have own own reunion among us and worship our Lord. Worshiping is not just on this day but everyday.
You can see decorations for Christmas around the city area and is shopping malls. this decorations will stay up after 1 week or 2 after their Orthodox Christmas. You can Christmas is celebrated here but not in a glamorous way as in the West.
