ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS (PORT MORESBY)
> public transportation fares (tube, bus etc ...)

BUS ONLY + TAXIS

RANGE FROM 2 KINA FOR A SINGLE BUS JOURNEY TO 50 KINA UPWARDS FOR TAXI DEPENDING ON LENGTH OF JOURNEY

SORRY NO TUBE....

> food prices(per month, how much does it cost you?)

FOOD IS QUITE EXPENSIVE
I PERSONALLY FIND IT MORE THAN THE UK

FOR E.G

A TIN OF BAKED BEANS IS 5-6 KINA!!!
WESTERN FOODS ARE MORE EXPENSIVE.
LOCAL FOOD FROM MARKETS IS CHEAPER

> health prices (for those who need medical insurance)

YOU CAN PAY UPTO 500 KINA A NIGHT FOR A PRIVATE HOSPITAL IN PORT MORESBY

> eduction prices (if you need to pay)

DEPENDS ON THE SCHOOLS

10000 KINA A YEAR FOR SECONDARY EDUCATION IN GOOD SCHOOLS SUCH AS POMIS

> energy prices (oil, electricity)

METERED OR BILLED, SOLAR, PREPAY
THERE ARE VARIOUS OPTIONS
400 KINA PER MONTH ON AVERGAE

> common bills (Internet, television, telephone, mobile phone)
NO WIDESPREAD BROADBAND COVERAGE AS YET IN PORT MORESBY
IT IS STILL EXPENSIVE. AT LEAST 300 KINA MONTH (DALTRON)
THERE ARE HOTSPOTS IN DIFERENT HOTELS TO ACCESS USING WIFI ETC.
LANDLINE - TELIKOM 500 KINA PLUS A MONTH DEPENDING ON CALLS ETC.
ONLY 2 MOBILE NETWORKS AT PRESENT
B- MOBILE AND DIGICEL
BOTH PAY AS U GO AND BOTH EXPENSIVE
THEY ARE ROLLING OUT CONTRACTS NOW THOUGH AGAIN NOT REALLY COMAPRABLE WITH THE UK

> prices of a good menu in a traditional restaurant

35- 50 KINA PLUS A MEAL IN A GOOD RESTAURANT

> prices of a beer and or a coffee in a regular pub

7-18 KINA FOR A BEER
8-12 KINA FOR A COFEE

> price of the cinema
NO CINEMA IN PNG
NOT WHAT YOU WOULD CALL A CINEMA ANYWAY

AGAIN ALL OF THIS IS ONLY AN AVERGAE ESTIMATION

IT WILL ALL DEPEND ON YOU USAGE OF SERVICES ETC.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

YOU WILL FIND THAT COST OF LIVING IS QUITE HIGH

PRIVATE APARTMENTS IN DOWNTOWN POM (PORT MORESBY) ARE PRICEY

RANGING FROM 1000KINA PER WEEK + FOR 2 BED ETC. (RENT)

FUEL PRICES AT THE MOMENT STILL CHEAPER THAN MOST OF EUROPE

4 KINA A LITRE UNLEADED

I WOULD SEE IF YOUR PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYER HAS ANY ADDITIONAL BENEFITS ONTOP OF YOUR BASIC PAY SUCH AS HOUSING ALLOWANCE, COMPANY CAR ETC.

P.S. TV IS MAINLY THROUGH HITRON FOR (MTV, MOVIE CHANNELS ETC, HBO, NAT GEO, BBC) AT AROUND 250 KINA MONTH

SORRY IF I QUOTE IN KINA

YOU CAN USE A CURRECNY CONVERTOR SUCH AS XE.COM

ALL THE BEST

there is a very high pressure/demand on housing.
Houses in secured compounds are very rare and there are long waiting lists.
my rent (for a 3 bedroom) had increased 75% in 3 years. so is the case of most of my friends and colleagues.
"Price of the market" is the reason advanced by real estates when the claim for this increase !!!

it seems like the living cost is quite expensive for scurity reason. can somebody tell me more 'bout baby product there.

e.g : baby's milk, paed, diapers, food, kindergarden etc related.

Hi,

May I know about the room rent  in Port Morseby? and also Price about 1 KG cocoa seads?

Hi .

For the telecomunication, does anyone here can provide me service provider's website so I can check their packages for plans?

Is it advisable to shift foods from Hometown country instead? I read 1forum site and one says that they used to shift 1 year supply of preserved foods and basic toiletries in PNG to minimize their cost.

Thanks.
