I am a newbie..i have landed here and am staying at a hotel for time being. I am from India and am here along with my husband. We both are going to be employed here as biochem staff in an university affiliated college. I need to know whether is it mandatory to wear scarf..whats the general dress code for me..some info about transportation, theaters, night life, Indian restaurants and parties held over here by Indian community and others..thanks! And big shout out to all the Indians out here!! Namaste!

hi mumbai dost

firstly Namaste! Now, let me get straight to the point ;)

1. no you dont have to wear the burqa or the headscarf.. foreigners are not compelled here to wear them. The dress code is to dress modestly..now definition of "modest" is variable.. ;) but here i have seen many women wearing jeans, Tee, half or even sleevless tops, midlength or full length skirts..Indians even wear saree..

2. Taxi is major public transportation here. Since you both are gonna work, investing in a car would prove good! petrol is damn cheap compared to India and convenience is at your door step! So dont be hesitant to look into buying a car

3. life is simple and hence you make money. No multiplex ..infact I dont think there is even a major theatre here which hosts hollywood or bollywood movies. But you do get DVDs, both hollywood n bollywood. Infact, libyans like bollywood movies and songs..

4. There is one Indian restaurant that I know of in Janjour and there is major grocery shop for Indian food and spices at tripoli..you dont get everything but you do get many items ;)if you need the add,ill find exact details and PM you.

5. About parties, we do have here!..like some birthday parties, anniversaries, new year, diwali, Xmas and sometimes a simple get2gther ..and we dance and rock! depending on where you land, you can start socializing and then get invited ..if no parties, then you can start the trend by conducting the first one!

Hope this helps and PM me for any other info you need..! Welcome on board :)
