Importing a Vehicle

Hi,

I am thinking of importing a vehicle from the UK. The reason for this is due to personal reasons and that it seems to be cheaper to do so despite the mileage and fuel costs.

How would you find out how much it would cost to import a vehicle to Malta? such as; registration tax etc.

If it depends on the vehicle it would be a Mitsubishi Shogun or Pajero up to the value of £2,000.

I was going to do this closer to the point when me and my wife would be traveling across Europe to the UK however, it seemed a little silly to bring a vehicle here for a month and have the hassle of registering. I am aware you can ask for an exemption but I feel that this is a bit of a "in the air" idea and uncertainty. So, was therefore thinking of getting the car now, register in Malta, and then a year later drive back.

Any advise would be welcome.

Many thanks,

registration tax would most likely be in the thousands of euros

exemption only applies if owned for 2 years outside of Malta
