Advice on cost of living in southern england for rent ect

We are a family of 5 and a dog wanting to move to England. We have 3 kids and want to check prices on rentals to see how it compares to Canada and see if we could afford to live there.
Which towns/cities are the cheapest?
Which towns are best for the kids activities like hockey, soccer, gymnastics?
I would prefer to be with in 1.5 hours to an airport pls.
