International schools in benalmadena

Post new topic

Hi - I hope somebody can help.  We are a 'youngish' family with 2 children aged 7 & 11 and are looking at moving to Benalmadena early next year.  We are looking to put our children into an English speaking school and was wondering if anybody could recommend one?  We are living in France at the moment where our children have been in French speaking schools for the last 2 years and so we feel that it would be a bit much to expect them to go I into Spanish speaking schools and start all again.  We are looking for an area with a lot of expats - could you recommend an area for us to look at.  Mijas Costa, La Cala Mijas and Benalmadena Pueblo have been mentioned to me?  Are these areas nice places, close to expats and good schools.  Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Think twice! Do you really want to live in an entirely ex pat community? Your children would suffer a slight delay in their schooling but would end up trilingual. There are lots of English ghettoes in Spain where the people haven't bothered to learn the language. In my experience the Spanish find this insulting and resent it. You may want to think about integrating yourself an your children a little more? Just a thought.

Thanks for your reply.  I am going to learn Spanish as will the children (my dad is fluent) but we want to learn at a slower pace and in our own time.  My little girl is 11 and I feel in her first year at high School it is a little unfair to make her learn another language after 2 years of really hard work learning French.  I want her to be back in the English system so she gets the best education and is not left behind spending another 2 years learning Spanish.  We do not want to be surrounded by only expats but a mixture of both and are looking forward to learning Spanish and making a mixture of English and Spanish friends.  If you know of any good areas to start our search that would be great.  Many thanks
