I assume your going to university there since there is not much there. You best bet for a good time is a house party. In a town like that its best to join a fraternity.

Leon - Irvine is basically a glorified business park. However, there are things to do around the area. Disneyland is a short drive (without traffic, unlikely). Regardless Orange County is a large metropolitan area and I highly doubt you will want to resort to a 'house party.'
Traffic is a nightmare, be warned.

It all depends on your definition of fun. If you like sitting in traffic and paying $10 for coffee, Irvine is great.
