Hi everybody!

I am a young french girl and I am borred with France, I'd like to live in the US, the american dream?

Im studying biology in a 'IUT' in France and i'd like to know how long it takes to get the citizenship if I work, if I study...

And what about the universities/colleges? It is so hard to study in the US as an international student and very expensive, will I have any scholarships, help?

Im thinking about the best way to start a new life, i mean get the citizenship and a good diploma, I guess its easier to study being an american, can i work and stay at the US for 3, 5 years (i dont really know the exact period, websites are not very helpfull sometimes) and apply to a university or a community college where the prices are expensiveless?

Im also planning to do my training period next year in the US, it is a 10 weeks training period and it will help me to find out more about the US and to have a little experience...and why not keep to work in the place i will practice my work experience.

Im very open minded, and I apologize for my english mistakes...

Thank you :)

Julien

Maybe you should start by contacting the US embassy in France?

Check their website here: http://www.amb-usa.fr/indexfr.htm

Good luck, but I think you have a real slim chance to get US citizenship, or work permit. The fact is they don't need us. They have people in excess. This makes you an excess, so unless you are a nuclear scientist or something dramatic, you probably will not have such an easy time getting citizenships and permits.

Professional careers that do get easy access to legal work in the US are nurses; they are in shortage.

hey bcnexpat!!
I'm nurse by the way, coming to NY to follow my lover...Without working visa, can I get one once there?

Hi tatawan
From my experience, the only way to get a working visa following your lover is to mary him. You'll get a visa attached to his in that case (meaning that you'll loose your visa if he gets unemployed). With a visa, you'll be able to ask for a Social Security Number, which may allow you to get a work permit. I'm not a specialist and there might be another way, but that's how we worked it out with my wife.

Tourist visa can never be converted to a working visa. The best way, is that, find an employer that can be willing to sponsor you for a work permit so your stay in NY would be legal and you can stay longer.Goodluck!
