Does the B1/B2 visa have advantages or disadvantages over the ESTA?

I have family living in Chicago. Since I have retired 6 years ago I have visited them regularly using the ESTA. I have just come back to visit and I am here for 84 days. I never book 90 days in case there is a flight delay and overstay. At immigration in Dublin this time I was told I am visiting too often to be using an ESTA and I need to apply for B1/B2 tourist visa. I can easily prove I am able to support myself while in the US because I have a good pension in the UK. I have absolutely no wish to work or claim Social Security in the US, I just enjoy spending time with my family.

Are there any pitfalls or disadvantages to me if I get the B1/B2 please ?
