Hi,

can a foreigner buy property in Iceland?

If so, is it complicated? What is the process of purchasing a property in Iceland?

Any tips for buying property, such as a check-list of items to verify ?

Thanks in advance for participating!

Hi,Christine.

It all depends on where the foreigner is from, the purposes of the interest of buying,if he has Icelandic or European partnership and for how long this foreigner has been living in Iceland. Yours,is a tricky question, because there´s more than one answer, depending on the foreigner itself.
I am Spanish, and i bought an apartment with my Icelandic parter (50%) after one year i moved to Iceland. So there´s 2 points that allow me to do it:
1- I am a citizen from the EU.
2-I bought with an Icelandic partner.
In any case, would be easier for you to contact the Icelandic embassy in Mauritius (if there´s any) or any Icelandic embassy close to your country and ask the information about possible legal agreements between your country and Iceland.
I hope i have been somehow helpful.

Warm greetings from Iceland!

Hi,Amit.

I recommend you to go to the Facebook page "Away from home, living in Icleand" and ask for help there  :)

Good luck!

Thanks for suggestion. I have already done that.

Hi everyone,

I noticed that some time went by, and no one was interested in moving (well, not here).
Anyway, I am moving to Iceland soon, and when I say soon, I mean in a month or so.
I am married, and have a baby girl, so I am looking for a place to settle as soon as possible. Also, I am not EU passport holder, but my wife and daughter are, so I guess that helps a lot.

Anyway, if anything new happened regarding buying in Iceland, for foreigners, or maybe a page where I can take a look at the properties for sale, would be useful.

Hope to hear from someone soon.

Thanks,
Filip&Sanja
