Hello and welcome! :)

To give you an estimate. For food: you can have a satisfying local meal for $10. If you are a fan of fast food there are many places like Texas chicken or Chester's, a typical meal would cost around $6.

Clothes: depends on which shop are you choosing, you can find really expensive ones here, like Levi's jeans for $55, or you can have a good jeans (not brand) for $20.

Alcohol: CHEAP! A miller beer would cost you $1.

Cigarretes: cheap too, a packet will cost you around $3 max.

Traditional Market: I don't suggest you go there, for shopping go to Majidi Mall, it's a huge mall with fixed prices, you can find whatever you need there, if you go to the local market they will probably ask double figures since you are an expat. electronics can be found in Majidi mall for fixed and reasonable prices.

Let me know if I can help you more :)

@ Harmonie : thanks :)

@ MarkW3 :
Thank you so much for the details.. at least it helps alot for us to calculate what we have to bring there.. whether we have to bring from here or just buy there... :)

my husband teach at American International School - Kurdistan.. have you ever heard about that school? and is it safe to live there? as we all know, iraq is known as a conflict country.. but i assume since it's located on the northern part of iraq nothing to be worried.. am i right?

cheers,

starkhan

First of all I would like to offer my humble gratitude and congratulations to you due to your great effort for convincing a person who wants to move to Erbil. I am one of them who desire to arrive Erbil.

As of now, I know one person and through him many others. They all are waiting for me to hug and give their true love and brotherhood. I know Arabic, English, Urdu, Hindi , Persian and basic French. I have plan to teach there English at an individual institute in Erbil.

I would love to get in touch with and all those who are coming there from all over the world. I love to make a nice friendship with American-Indonesian couple who are already living there and he is teaching at an American school. I've seen it's picture through Internet.
