Buying a home in DR

Hello all, first time posting …

my wife and i want to retire in DR. We travel there occasionally and my wife was born in Santiago. We were thinking of searching in Punta Cana. Can anyone recommend good areas in Punta Cana? We would like a home in a gated community.

area selection would depend greatly if you plan to have a car or not.

if do not plan to have a car then you would want to be closer to an area that has amenities like supermarkets, pharmacy, restaurants, etc. nearby (Within walking distance or a short uber ride). areas that fit this description would be downtown (airport area) and then west up to Bavaro. There are many gated communities area available in these area.

if you have a car then you can be more flexible in your location (further away from others). not sure about gated communities as you get further away from more populated areas. I know there is a gated community further west by the Had Rock resort.
