hej hej to anyone out there reading this!

Background:

My grandmother was born and raised in Aalborg. I recently travelled to Denmark with my husband to stay in Copenhagen and visit her hometown. When we arrived, I felt at home and complete.

We currently live in Los Angeles, California and are seriously considering relocating to Copenhagen. We just don’t know where to start.

We have completed basic research on qualifications to move to Denmark without an EU passport.

Careers:

I work in education. I’ve taught at the secondary level for 8 years. I also managed an athletics program. I am currently work as a community relations coordinator for a school district.

My husband is a police officer for LAPD in Los Angeles, California. He has worked in a number of communities and worked various positions.

Help:

I think our biggest apprehension is being unsure we could find jobs based on our education and experience.

Does anyone have a general sense of what jobs we could be qualified for? What are our chances making careers in Denmark with very basic Danish speaking/hearing?

How do we begin this journey?

I appreciate any help or ideas.

Tak! 1f642.svg

Hello and welcome on board !

Till members share their insight with you, I would suggest that you read our Living in Denmark guide for expats, specially articles under the Work section to gather as much information as possible.

You may also create your CV In the Jobs in Denmark section to put forward your skills.

Have  you  checked  into  getting Danish  citizenship  or at least  permanent  residency  based  on  your  grandmother?i  know in  Ireland  this would work, but no idea with DK.

If  you’re  a  teacher,  you may  want  to  try  one  of  the  international  schools

Hi,

I am sorry, but I am afraid that my answer will disappoint you.

I take that you have read

https://www.nyidanmark.dk/en-GB

why you'll know that you need a job before handing in a residency application.

If you don't master Danish, only odd jobs will be available, but such jobs don't pay high enough to meet the salary requirements for a working visa.

Teachers at 'folkeskolen' (the state schools) teach in Danish. As ATA76 has written you may try an international school, but those are very few.

Neither will a Danish citizenship be possible.
