Hi!  I have been living in Punta Cana for about 2 years.  Does anyone else here suffer from persistent allergies?

I'm talking sinus congestion, especially ears.   I can't seem to go out of the house without taking a decongestant but now I'm getting the symptoms inside the house too.

What's in the air here ?!

@Conifer not sure it maybe mole in the house

Take a ride up to the mountains for a day and see if it clears up ….. maybe it’s just a few plants around where you live outside that’s affecting your sinuses  and depending on which way the wind is blowing is affecting the air quality inside of the house

Sunshine and 80 degrees will do it 1f923.svg

I can be wrong but, I my opinion,  it is not likely that the air has anything to see in your allergy.

Most of the time, that's due to mites. Throw away your mattress and cushions, buy new ones. Once it is done, boil cushions, pillowcases and sheets regularly. Old bed covers also need to be removed or boiled. You can iron the mattress surface every week to in order to keep the mites number as low as possible.

It is what my wife does, it has improved her state of health. Decongestants alone did not do the job.

Local honey works well for allergies.  Make sure its local and not from across the world..

If you use AC, make sure the filters are clean! The dust, mold, and mildew here can be really bad.

The other advice on cleaning linens, upholstered furniture, mattresses, pillows, etc. is spot on! And I agree with using local honey! If you are allergic to any of the flora, the local honey will definitely help.

@Guineo Verde While air quality may play a role in allergies, often the culprit is dust mites. Consider replacing mattresses and cushions, while regularly washing or boiling bedding, including pillowcases and sheets. Silk bedsheets could be a beneficial option as they may discourage mites due to their natural properties. Ironing the mattress weekly can help reduce mite populations. This comprehensive approach, as my wife discovered, can improve health more effectively than relying solely on decongestants.

Boiled bedding.  Is this 1901?   Amusing but I am sure it works but how much energy does this use?

Some 😄

Treat yourself and buy new, who wants to all that work

I'd like to know where you guys get pots big enough to boil your cushions.

Maybe time to see an allergy specialist?

Who is good?

Sorry I cannot help other than to suggest Hospiten in punta cana

DominicanadaMike

There is a good ear Doctor in IMG.  Not a fan of the ear doctor in Hospiten.  As for allergies, been around them most of my life "as an observer".  If you think it's the place you are staying in, go to a different place for a couple of days (consider it a vacation) and see if you are any better.  A lot of properties more than 10 years old are full of mold.  Try a newer or well kept property and see if there is a difference.  Allergy specialists here are few and far between.  Higuey is your closest specialist.  This Doctor is very good but has been replaced by another doctor at IMG that is also very good: DRA. Janeth Leal.  Sorry I don't remember her name...
