Has food cost increaed massively? by jeanmandredeix
Is it me or has food costs increased over past few months? I monitored my food costs on our last 6 week visit and we have only been here two weeks so far and they seem a hell of a lot higher.
@JimJ I did! Most items I order from Amazon.de are free delivery over the minimum 40 odd euro mark, but it seems, not this particular coffee. Read More

@JimJ Thanks, I'll take a look at that . I tried Amazon.de but they wanted to add a delivery charge, even the the value of the beans was above the minimum usually required, for free delivery. Read More

@jeanmandredeix You're not wrong Jean. Over the last 3 weeks I have seen frozen berries rise from 6.99 to 9.99 leva & coffee beans rose by a staggering 20 leva!! I'm now sourcing coffee beans from Slovakia, as it's cheaper even with postage ... Read More
Change of address by AshAdu
Hello everyone,When we got our Bulgarian residence we were in Plovdiv, so a Plovdiv address is on our Bulgarian ID cards. Our car is also registered in Plovdiv. We now live outside Bansko. My better half feels we should update our address. We would ...
@JimJ Proving that you've obtained a secondary school education has no bearings on ones ability as a driver though! Nor a safe driver at that. Whereas your years of experience as a driver, are far more valid. Most of the signs on major roads / ... Read More

@Sticky59 This was a requirement following the grace period following Brexit. Thankfully common sense eventually prevailed, and it's no longer required to provide proof of a secondary school education. It's now the same as it used to be pre Brexit, ... Read More
Question for Admin(s) by JimJ
I float around a few of the other Country sections on this site and my impression is that the Bulgaria one is one of the most active, despite the number of foreign immigrants here being rather lower than in many other EU countries. Am I right in my ...
@SimCityAT I've been informed that this is only the requirement for those that intend to work......And in all honesty, you would need to have that as the basics, if that was the case. Read More
Employing Locals by Snowball6
I’m looking for someone to come in twice a day to feed my horse when I’m overnighting. What would I expect to pay for this?Any advice would be really helpful
@Snowball6 I regularly feed my neighbours animals when she goes away, it used to involve rabbits, cats, chickens & dog ( it's just the dog now ). Wouldn't dream of charging her, it's just a neighbourly thing to do & she insists on home made ... Read More
Field mouse? by Kath948381
We or rather I saw a very small mouse with a long tail upstairs in our village house this morning and husband saw one downstairs close to the kitchen sink. Maybe it was the same one. I don't think it's a house mouse as the food stuff upstairs ...
@Kath948381 It's always mouse & rat season in village houses Kath 😆, and therefore the stores will ALWAYS have a myriad of ways of disposing of them. Vigilance is key, and dealing promptly with them, before they get out of hand. Read More

@S25 - Sean Gwyn is right, they don't have a Praktiker store in Elhovo, the nearest will be Yambol. They do have smaller, local builders merchants but Yambol has all the bigger well known stores. Read More

@gwynj So, I eventually got around to getting in touch with our translator in regards to applying for the NHIF ( she is very knowledgeable on how all systems work in Bulgaria, and also the UK! ) Apparently, we will have to pay back 5 years of ... Read More

@gwynj Thank you so much Gwyn for sharing your knowledge/ experience, it really is invaluable. We use a GP locally and he speaks perfect English, which is a Godsend - my limited grasp of the Bulgarian language does not extend to medical terminology, ... Read More

@gwynj Thanks for your reply Gwyn. It would make perfect sense to join the NHIF if it's true that we don't have to back pay the years that we have been residents here, otherwise it would be very costly. There's something in the back of my mind, ... Read More
