Featuring African rhythms, Flamenco and Kathak
ADACH to host exceptional world music and dance performance in January and February
Abu Dhabi - Featuring the best of contemporary world music and dance, the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) continues its unique initiative World Stage by hosting three exceptional artistic experiences this January and February.
Authentic music lovers will witness an extraordinary performance of internationally acclaimed Malian musician Habib Koite on January 21 at the Cultural Foundation in the capital.
Koite, famous for his exuberant guitar-playing and vibrant African rhythms, and his supporting cast, Bamada, a super-group of West African talent, including Kélétigui Diabate, have graced numerous world music festival stages and won an array of awards for their chart-topping albums.
In January 24 and 25 ADACH will host another breath taking flamenco nights at Emirates Palace Hotel Auditorium by Joaquin Cortes who needs no introduction to Flamenco and dance lovers; he single handedly re-defined the language of Spanish dance when he was only in his twenties. Since then he has embarked on a superstar career constantly pushing the limits of movement and drawing inspiration from his gypsy heritage and contemporary sensibilities. In Abu Dhabi he presents show CALE - his brand new flamenco extravaganza with forty dancers on stage.
Akram Khan, one of the world's top contemporary dance choreographers is partnering with ADACH to present a two-year international co-production reflecting the artistic heritage of the Middle East. His first piece, Gnosis, presents a sublime combination of traditional Indian Kathak dance and contemporary movement with Arab Oud and Qanoon musicians live on stage. The performance has already garnered rave reviews after its recent premiere in London's Sadler's Wells Theatre and receives its Middle East premiere in Abu Dhabi before touring the region.
The show will be staged on February 25 and 26 on Abu Dhabi Theatre (Marina Mall area).
Al Dhafra Festival 2010 - Madenat Zayed in Al Gharbia (The Western Region)
ABU DHABI ' The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) is organizing "Al Dhafra Festival 2010", a world-renowned cultural event focusing on camels, which runs from January 30 until February 8, 2010 in Madenat Zayed in Al Gharbia (The Western Region).
Dhafra Festival, which typically attracts thousands of locals and tourists to many of the events, will include many important events such as the traditional market, competitions on poetry, dates and photography and many new heritage events that will be announced later.
The Organising Committee announced the launch of a new contest for the first time at the Dhafra Festival called 'Al-Hallab'. This new contest seeks to choose the camel that produces the most milk. The competition seeks to attract attention to this category in camel breading and encourage camel owners to acquire 'milky' camels, especially as these camels have been offering a great economic value for centuries.

ADACH and photography association launches a contest on camels
Abu Dhabi - The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) opened the door today for registration in the second session of its annual photography competition to coincide with Al Dhafra festival, to kick off January 30 to February 8 in Madenat Zayed in Al Gharbia (the Western Region) under the patronage of HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
The competition reflects ADACH belief in the value of photographs as living documents that transfer real events and archives them into a sense of aesthetic sensitivity, and which add to the traditional value of the festival's artistic dimensions, and aesthetic magical visions.
The competition is part of the Emirates photography contest organized by ADACH and supervised by the Abu Dhabi International Association of Photography.
The competition is designed to achieve a set of goals, notably to boost the photography movement in the UAE, create grater communication between the generations, increase environmental awareness, revive interests in heritage in line with technological, artistic and cultural developments, and shed light on the Bedouin community and their patterns of life.
Participants are expected to highlight the daily events of Al Dhafra Festival with creative high-quality images. Present artistic images that depict the beauty of camels and their relationships with humans show the environment of the festival and the beauty of nature in the region that surrounds it.
The first place winner will be given a 20,000 dirhams prize, the second place winner will be awarded 15,000 dirhams, the third place winner will be given 12,000 dirhams and fourth place winner will be given 10,000 dirhams, in addition to incentive prizes and certificates of recognition to distinguished participations.
Participants are entitled to participate with up to 5 photographs. The deadline for accepting and submission is February 15, 2010. Only photos taken at Al Dhafra festival are accepted. The competition is open for photographers resident in UAE only, whether professionals or amateurs.
Photographs must be submitted in the form of digital files on CD or DVD, and sent by mail with forms completed in English to the competition's address. Name and address of the photographer should be visible on each CD. Photos must be in JPG format only, with quality of no less than 300 DPI.
