Ecuador's Silicon Valley

Sad to read that people were thrown from their land, offered nothing, hired a lawyer and received about half of what it is worth.  A billion dollars is a big chunk in Ecuador, includes paying Skype board members $200,000/year.  They are also threatening to sue the kicked out founder for saying ugly things about the project. Said it takes 40 years to build such a city, but having learned from other failures, they figure it will only take 35 years.  Students commuting 11 miles and they expect to add a graduate school, while no students pay any tuition. Price of oil gonna either kill this project or delay it indefinitely.

Pretty much sums it up. Besides, don't really thik you can ever recreate a Silicon Valley. Maybe to a degree, but Silicon Valley is one of those things that just kind of took on a life of it's own. I applaud the initiative of many of these developing countries trying to progress with the future, but think perhaps a better use of resources would be to try and develop some good vocational schools throughout the country, and maybe put some money starting some new technological programs in several of the already established Universities.
