Visa 90-day limit?

chefjim

Ola Gente,

I'm returning to Brasil shortly, and just received an email from the airlines telling me that if I have previously been in Brasil for close to 90 days, that I may not be permitted to enter again!  Has there been a change in the law, or am I still allowed up to 180 days a year?  How would the airlines here determine how many days I've stayed in-country?  My passport was not stamped every time I visited last year!  Thank you for any response.

Hello Jim,

Just checking in to see how things are going.

Have you been able to get clarity from the airline or the authorities regarding your entry into Brazil? Any updates on your situation would be interesting to hear.

Cheers,

Cheryl

Hi Cheryl!

Thank you for your message.  I am back in Brasil...without any problems!  Upon arriving at the airport to leave, the person checking me in  only asked for my Brasilian visa.  When I questioned the reason for the email I received, I was told that, if I have already visited Brasil for more than 90 days, then I might have to talk to the Federal Police to determine whether or not I'd be allowed to enter the country.  (To be truthful, I have often spent over 90 days in Brasil over several months, and then entered again without any trouble....so, I was rather confused.)

Upon arrival in Sao Paulo, I quickly processed through Immigration without a problem, and had my passport stamped with a 90-day limit again.  I'm really not sure why the airlines sent me an email.

It's good to be back in Brasil...especially in Rio Grande do Sul!

Hey Jim,

Thank you for the update!

I am glad to hear everything went smoothly in the end! It is good that you did not encounter any issues at immigration.

I'm really not sure why the airlines sent me an email.

Perhaps some things are better left unknown! 😁

Enjoy being back in Brazil, and thank you for sharing your experience.

All the best,

Cheryl

Dont make a habit of overstaying because you will get banned from entering the country if you make a habit of it.
