Lençóis Maranhenses National Park

Drjmagic

hi

We are thinking of taking a trip to Barreirinhas and  Lençóis Maranhenses National Park during Carnival this year (2023).  We live in Sao Paulo so this is a long journey.

I  have been getting conflicting reports as to whether February is a good time to visit. Some reports indicate lots of rain, others say they were disappointed in February because the lakes were all dried up and there was only sand sand sand. Can someone share knowledge and/or experience as to when is the best time to go? Also, is February NOT a good time to go.

Thanks in advance

@Drjmagic, Please, Please, Please come I am the only English Speaker for miles around. First you want to look up Jericocoara on You Tube. That is where the National Park is located.

I live in a small village of about 2,500 about a half hour from Jericocoara and the National park.

The bad news is that this morning there were about 100 very large butterflies hanging out in the shower room (which unfortunately has an open door).

When I thought of rainy season, I thought of well a lot of rain, in the tropics there are lots (think Hitchcocks movie - The Raven?)) of swarms of very large bugs, flies etc. that come out with the rain.

So rainy season, my wife tells me could be to June. I would verify first. It is a beautiful place when it does not rain.

Please post when you know when you are coming.

This is the third winter in a row where a La Nina cycle has affected the wprevailing weather in the NE and N regions of Brazil.  Generally this has meant more reainfall to the point of flooding in semiarid and arid areas. In mid-Bahia it started raining in mid-November and just poured eveyr day in December and we are still getting occasional violent thunderstorms, besides of which the whole countryside has turned a frightening shade of bright green, but there have been fewer floods and less damage than last year .....
