SALARY IN DUBAI

Schoombie

HI, i am moving over to Dubai in the beginning of Feb. I have heard mixed stories about a Salary that is comfortable to live off? My boss is offering me 8000 a month, which does not include a Rent allowance, thus i still need to pay rent, electricity, food and other general expenses? some people have said that i am silly to accept this amount?

Please could i get some input?

Much appreciated

Hi Schoombie,

I've been in Dubai once, yes the cost of living is high because obviously it's an open country. Housing allowance is not really included in any company giving salary. You will provide it, Im not sure about the salary but Im sure that to get a cheaper rent is to share from 2 to 3 person in one room or at least 4 of you. If your hard worker take part time to cover some of your expences if you think your salary cannot sustain all your expences well that include your habits. :) goodluck

It all depends on your current package...
you can analyze it easily like select ur living standard:
1. separate room (3000-4000 AED)
2. sharing with 1 person in good area (1500-2000 AED)
3. sharing with 1 person in average area (1200-1700 AED)
4. sharing with 2-3 persons in average area(500-700 AED)

Your monthly food and grocery would be around 1000-1500 AED (if ur moderate spender)

shoping and traveling (avg) 1000-2000 AED

so by calculating it u can easily find urself where u stand and what u save also the currency rate also matters :)

Assuming the salary figure quoted by the OP is AED, and he is a South African national - yes you will be silly to accept this offer, when there is no provision of HRA or other benefits.  Beware medical insurance is compulsory, and almost all employers provide it, so make sure yours does it too.

8000 is very tight. You need to find a place in cheap areas, like International City, and use only Metro/bus (at least 250/300 aed/month). The company should provide a national health card as well as one round trip home once a year.
