Yoga in Riyadh

Verucya

Hi Ladies and Gentlemen! Your thoughts are needed....

I live in the sunny Los Angeles, California, and currently considering relocation to Riyadh to join my husband. As I may not be able to work in my profession, a serious consideration is given to opening my own yoga studio which will be run by one of my best friends, who is a yoga teacher here in Beverly Hills. Potential location is close to compounds or diplomatic quarter. Since, my knowledge of Riyadh and lifestyle is limited, i am asking for your opinion of how successful this venture can be in Riyadh? Your thoughts and ideas will be highly appreciated....

Sincerely,
Vera V

this type of business would be very difficult to get a permission for it. to give an example, only for ladies salon is not allowed!! forget yoga which can be linked to non-islamic teachings.
if i were u, i would start as a private trainer for the elites.

There are plenty of yoga classes around Riyadh--you just don't know about them because typically Nationals aren't allowed into Western compounds.

I know they arent allowed in mine, at all.

I only see yoga classes on compounds, never in country

getting permission is difficult, you have to make some saudi your partner and manage things that way.

however, if you prefer to give classes at home and find good people that can be a worthy idea.

You are totally wrong here.  Expats can arrange space with compound management and give classes, be it yoga, salsa dancing, whatever.

I could be wrong but I believe a Saudi friend told me you can take Yoga at Specialized Medical Center.  They have a women's gym there and offer different kinds of classes.

Trying to bring this back on topic the situation here would not permit the setting up of a yoga studio outside of a compound. Then on the compounds there is a number of people offering the service so, in summery if you were the yoga teacher you could run classes on a compound, if you are not then your friend would not be able to come to the KSA to do this on anything other than a visitor visa which would be very difficult to obtain.
