Question about assistant professor job offer

Leftcoastprofessor

Hi folks,

I received (and accepted) an offer from a private royal university in Khobar, equal to SR 18,600/month. Lodging on a compound is included, transportation, A health insurance, and the standard annual repatriation airfare to my home country (US) and the 60 days paid vacay.

Is this an aggressive offer for an academic with a PhD/MA from a top tier US school, published author, and roughly five years of undergrad/grad teaching experience?  I ask because, based on convos with other academics here, I may have left a bit of $ on the table (in US dollars, maybe 750-1000). I'm content, but I'd like to get an idea of salary ranges and if possible, where I fall on the scale. Perhaps when contract renewal comes around and I elect to hang around, I'll have a bit more beta on salary and thus a possible means of negotiating a higher rate (assuming they want me to hang around!).

In case people wonder, why KSA, I'm here to immerse myself in the culture. I love this country, ever since my first hajj almost 10 years ago. As a Muslim, I'm keen to study Arabic/Islam in depth, have close access to Makkah/Madinah, as well as close access to regional countries (KSA has a fine location making wkend trips to Turkey etc very convenient)...oh, and then there's the hiking, scuba diving etc :)

Any input from the community would be most welcome.

Best,
LeftCoastProfessor
