No nobody check the laptop. Don't worry.

Do you have something to hide or objectionable?

They are rarely checked.  They look at the person first... so for example, if a young saudi dude with a ponytail, low rise jeans, and a chain around his neck was entering from a holiday in Europe, there is a high chance that his laptop will be checked.  But if the same person is with a female (sister, wife, mother), there is no way they will check it.

Western female, forget about it!

I brought 2 laptops in just a few days ago, and also 2 months ago, but they were not checked.

There is a lot of misinformation about this and most of it is just hearsay without real evidence. True, things may have been different some 20 years ago but things have changed since then. A colleague of mine deleted all this personal photos on the laptop as he thought this might be offensive for the customs when they check. No one checks your personal laptops, external drives or USB. You do not need to delete movies, photos or any software on your laptop. There is no problem in carrying any books either.

I've been in and out of the Kingdom on a yearly basis for 3 yrs now and I've never experienced having my laptop or smartphone checked at the immigration or custom counter. It just go through the xray scanner and that's it.

I can confirm that my husband was stopped and laptop, external hard drive and memory sticks were checked. This was in March and he was wearing a business suit. They checked his devices for around 20 minutes.
Colleagues said it's never happened to them, so I wonder why he was chosen?

that's weird......  perhaps your husband looked suspicious to them... usually, they don't even care how many gadgets you have.. sometimes, they don't even look at all....

That's what I said to him.

I have no idea why, he's been in and out many times and never seen it happen either, but it did.

As most people have said checks are rare, (never heard of a western woman being checked).

But as BacktoBlack said they can and do sometimes check.

I know of someone who has also experienced this, so I can not say it never happens.

If you dont have anything offensive (pornography etc) then nothing to worry about.

no they don't check at all, just go through scanning machine, nothing else, don't worry
