Moving To Muscat Oman

ANJALISINGHROY9

Dear All,

Would be honoured if anyone from the forum can help with a piece of advise. I have been transferred by my employee to Muscat, Oman. My husband is also residing there and I hold a family visa. For work visa to process, do i need to cancel my dependent visa and then apply for work visa or how shall be the process. As per Oman laws we need to have work permit to work there and dependent visa is not taken as work visa. Can anyone help urgently?

If you browse through various post, you'll be informed that the work visa for female expats is currently not being issued. However a very few exceptions have been noticed during 2014. Please get a concurrence with your current employer as its a transfer case.

If things go positive and by chance, you're able to get a work permit, then you must have to withdraw your family visa.

Hi ANJALISINGHROY9,

To be employed in Oman you must be on your company's employment visa. There is no other way you can be (officially) employed here.

Since your passport already carries a family joining visa, you would have to then get your visa transferred from family joining visa to your company's employment visa. It is a simple process, provided the company you intend to join has the required labour clearance. Since you've been transferred I assume that they hold the necessary clearance, without which your employment visa cannot be issued.

Just to be on the safe side, get this confirmed by your Oman employer. And if all papers are place then they themselves will do the needful regarding your visa transfer. Because this is something which only they have to do - not you.

Good luck.
