The idea that one person can have the power over whether another can have free healthcare when living in Spain as a pensioner has alarmed me. I wanted to retire permanently to Spain in stages and only have one home which I would have to sell to buy another in Spain. I am going to raise the issue with a friend and some Spanish people who are living in my area. They are lovely people and I think would be shocked to learn of your plight. I hope you won't mind me alerting others to this issues. Good luck, it just goes to show I need to take care to register in an area where I am accepted.
