Request for advice on how I can move to Spain

Saidat

Hello dear members,

My name is Aynura. I am living in Azerbaijan. I have finished a PhD program in Spain in May. My field of investigation was Organizational Communication.

When starting my education in the University in Palma, I had a student resident card with NIE number. As I couldn't extend its validity period in time, I lost the effectiveness of my resident card.

My intention is to move and work in Spain as an international contracts coordinator or in some other corresponding job. I speak Azerbaijani, Turkish, English, Russian fluently and intermediate Spanish.

So, I would like to hear your recommendations as how I can activate my NIE again and find a job.

Thank you very much in advance.

Kind regards,

Aynura

Your NIE number is a tax id which stays with you forever.

I think what you need is the TIE which is a residence/work permit for Spain. There is info on the govt. Extranjeria website or from a lawyer/gestoría but check with your prospective employer first - mine did all the paperwork for me!

As @jchilton says, your NIE is still OK... but your residence permit/TIE is not. You need to apply for a new residence permit, or find a cooperative employer who is willing to do this on your behalf (by sponsoring you for a standard work visa/residence).

However, like many countries, Spain likes foreigners to study in its universities... and provides a way for graduates to work in Spain once they've completed their studies (at a recognized Spanish university, at least Level 6, or bachelor's degree).

I'm not very familiar with Spain's post-study options, but I suggest the job search and practical work/internship options. And speak to your university as they'll have employment/visa folks who can advise you.

You've been a bit naughty not renewing your residence permit... and waiting several months after your studies finished.  Hopefully, an August submission will still be accepted, but I recommend you proceed ASAP (e.g. within 90 days of graduation is mentioned in the job search page)!

The other option which might be possible (depending on your job offer/salary) as you're highly educated, is to apply for an EU Blue Card.
