Moving & Renting

If I need a rental agreement for a year where do I store my furniture, art, etc. until I find my permanent home?  Is it better to just get it over from the States or keep it in storage in the US til I am ready to move?

You should take this information into account when making your choice:

As a resident moving to Portugal, you can typically import your used household goods duty-free. The items must have been owned and used for at least six months prior to the move and be imported within a specific timeframe (usually 6 to 12 months) of your official arrival. By shipping your belongings at the start of your move, you can meet these requirements and avoid paying a 23% VAT and customs duties, which would apply if you shipped them later.

If you choose to Find Storage in Portugal:

Portugal has many self-storage facilities.  Companies like Bluespace and U Can Store have multiple locations and provide flexible, short-term contracts.

Many professional moving companies that handle international shipments also offer storage services as part of a package deal.
