I've and small 40+ years old motorbike worth about €350 which I'd like to import as it slow and simple so ideal for pottering round in the sunshine and parking on pavements, I've somewhere to keep it under cover when not being used. Are there any Portuguese dispensations for older vehicles like an "Historic" vehicle class and reduced taxes and not having to have a COC ?

Hello.. this is what I was able to confirm online:

Historic Vehicle Classification: Vehicles over 30 years old can be classified as having cultural and historic interest to Portuguese State Heritage. This classification could apply to your motorbike, given its age.
Tax Exemptions: Vehicles certified as "Vehicles of Historic Interest" that are at least 30 years old from the date of production can obtain an exemption from the Single Circulation Tax (IUC). This would likely apply to your motorbike.
Periodic Inspection Exemption: Vehicles certified as historic interest vehicles are exempt from mandatory periodic inspection (IPO) during the validity period of the certification.
Low-Emission Zone Access: Certified historic vehicles are allowed to drive in low-emission zones.
Certificate of Vehicle of Historic Interest: You can obtain this certification from recognized entities like the Museu do Caramulo or ACP Portugal. The certificate is valid for 4 to 10 years, depending on the production year, and costs is <100€.
Import Process: You'll need to register the motorbike with Portuguese customs within four days of importing it. However, if you're not planning to use it on public roads immediately, you may not need to complete the full registration process right away.
Certificate of Conformity (COC): While normally required for vehicle registration, vehicles over 30 years old might not need to undergo homologation adaptations. This could mean you might not need a COC for your older motorbike.

I can advise that you check the cars' association in Portugal: ACP Portugal .. as they have a specific department dedicated to these situations and will be able to advise.
