getting a temporary residence permit

Hi

I really like Moldova and am thinking of retiring there. I'm a British citizen. As a first step, I will have to apply for a temporary residence permit. This seems to be fairly straightforward, according to the government website. All you need is an HIV certificate apart from the obvious things like passport and photos (?) For example, it doesn't say anything about proof of income.

Does anyone have any experience or advice? Would it be quite straightforward to get a temporary residence permit and then renew it later? I don't intend working, I have a pension and speak a bit of Romanian and Russian.

Anyone have some input? I'm listening : )
An interesting option
I am in the same position as the original poster. Would love to retire there but hard to find info on the long-stay visa and residence permit.  Does anyone know of an immigration attorney in Chisinau that speaks English and might be able to help?

God, your post is almost 10 yrs. old already! I wonder if you're still there, in Moldova, now, in 2025. Are you?

Your reply will be appreciated. 😀
