A good source of cars for sale is the ex rental market.

Most car hire firms sell off stock  at this time of year ready for new cars.

Just ask at any car hire places or ask a local.

Hey folks, does anyone know if there would be problems of any kind if buying a Japanese import car from a dealer ?

Second hand cars from Japan are very popular and reliable on the whole. Just make sure the radio can tune to the 88 - 108 MHz range used in Europe as otherwise it will have to be replaced. I strongly recommend a car with automatic transmission....it's a blessing in our ubiquitous traffic jams.

Thanks for that, it's an automatic I'm after, just wondered if the road tax or servicing etc would cost more, and if  resale value might be less?

Japan imports are not treated any differently when it comes to road tax. The tax on vehicles registered after 1/1/2009 is based on age and emissions. Parts for Japanese cars are relatively expensive regardless of where the car was first registered. However, high quality aftermarket parts are easily available @ local suppliers and also online. As for resale value, I believe that they are sought after because they tend to be well-equipped compared to those that are bought brand new from Malta. It's a good idea to get the car inspected by a mechanic and panel beater that you trust prior to purchasing it.
