id numbers on residence card

What are the important numbers on the "residence documentation" card?

I got a form to fill out and it asks for the Identity Card Number but which one is it? It asks for 8 characters so the one starting with MT at the front is to short. I did some online search but they write about a number ending with A or M, G, L, H, P. There is a 8 character number ending with A at the back but also a longer number with a part containing 8 characters ending with M at the bottom.

The one ending in A is your ID number A is for alien if you are maltese same number same place on card ends in M
