Maximizing eco-reductions on your 'residential' electricity bills.

Byron49

Are you satisfied that you are maximizing the Eco-reductions on your 'residential' electricity bills?

Every 6 months, ARMS Ltd. posts a notice to water and electricity account holders, advising them of the date and time the official ARMS Ltd. meter reader is scheduled to visit their premises in order to take an 'Actual reading' of the water and electricity meters.

Please note that if - as a tenant - your water and electricity bills are in your landlord’s name, only he/she - as the account holder - receives this notice.

However, should the official meter reader fail to gain access to your household on the appointed day to take 'Actual readings’ of your 'residential' water and electricity meters, it is strongly recommended that you e-mail them as 'Consumer readings' to ARMS Ltd. within 5 days in order to avoid receiving bills based on inflated 'Estimated readings'.

This is because 'Estimated readings' do not bind ARMS Ltd. to effect any eco-reductions on ‘residential’ electricity consumption bills.

Your entitlement to eco-reductions on 'residential' electricity bills is applicable only on the basis of the official meter reader's 'Actual readings' or (your) 'Consumer readings' - and only if the latter are e-mailed to ARMS Ltd. within 5 days of the official meter reader's scheduled visit.

For this purpose, it is advisable to e-mail your 'Consumer readings'- quoting the account number and service address - to ARMS Ltd. outside office hours, triggering an automated response from their system which should serve as a receipt for your e-mailed 'Consumer readings'.

Their e-mail address is: customercare@arms.com.mt

2) How the Eco-reduction is calculated on 'residential' electricity consumption tariffs:

Your eco-reduction is calculated on the number of registered consumers, including infants and children, on your account - see the top right-hand corner of your bill.

If your electricity account has one registered consumer and you consume less than 2000 electricity units during the whole year, a reduction of 25% on the electricity bill will apply.

For residences with more than one person registered on the account, and where consumption is less than 1,750 units per person, a reduction of 25% per person will apply on the first 1,000 units and a further 15% per person will apply on the remaining 750 units.

No discounts are applicable if threshold is exceeded.

This shall be calculated in accordance with the above rates, on a pro rata basis of the relative annual cumulative consumption.

3) ‘Domestic’ electricity bills, that is, those that show Zero number of residents registered at the top right-hand corner of the bill, do not qualify for eco-reductions.

To give an example, our three-person household saves EURO 10.00 a month in eco-reductions because our electricity meter readings are NOT 'Estimated'.

Extract from: ARMS invoice - The Times of Malta: Monday, 19th August, 2013.

‘Last May I received my electricity bill which I paid in full.

I was not given the usual eco reduction amounting to approximately €80.

ARMS customer care explained that since no reading was taken I was not given the eco reduction.

That week the meter reader came twice; we were not at home. When I tried to phone in with my electricity reading all ARMS lines were busy as usual………..’
