Cheap meals?

Entity

Hi,

After my second week here in Malta, I was unable to find a cheap place to lunch. 10-16EUR / day just for lunch seems a bit expensive :)

In Hungary there is many canteen like restaurants, you take the tray, choose from the actual offers, pay and eat... some kind of fast food but with normal dishes...
In Sliema area, I was unable to find this kind of place.
Ok, forget McDonalds, Burger King and Pizza Hut please :)

Is it not common in Malta? Every maltese family have time to cook every day?

How do you manage your daily lunch at work?

Thanks for the tips and responses :)

Andras

Ps: yes, I found the turkish kebab restaurant, 4EUR / Kebab but I can't eat that every day :)

Sliema is one of the most expensive places on the rock, but I'm sure there are also cheaper restaurants.

In the South it's much cheaper, therefore we go out for dinner quite often :)

btw, you can also buy vouchers (deal, dealtoday, vouchercloud, prixme etc.) which offers about 50% (and more) discount.

Well, the company's office is there, so I need to find something in that area :)
BTW maybe the problem is with me, because I'm still comparing prices to the hungarian ones....

Thanks for the tip!

At least compared with Budapest it's not much more expensive here ;)
In Cafe Cuba, Giorgios, Cafe Jubilee etc. you can also have a small lunch a 4 to 6 Euros, like ftiras, wraps, sandwiches, salads, pasta

Try Amigos in Dingli street. They do deliveries if it's too far for you. amigos.com.mt/

Straws - St Dominic Street, Sliema. Very near to the ferry point.

They are well known to the Maltese people and to some very lucky Expats and tourists that have been told about them! Local workers always there buying food for takeaway, but comfortable seating also available. We have been buying lunch there for the past six years when in Malta! Average price €4.50. Fresh and tasty and the selection is very good. Ftiras, sandwiches, pies, salads, pasta, burgers. Brilliant coffee quality. Run by husband and wife team, he is Maltese, she is English.
Straws moved into the old Serafino premises about six months ago so they have a chalk board outside saying STRAWS/SERAFINO

Try any of the Band Clubs, great value for money.
