Euro27 Countries Average Wages

scubaboy

Well this really opened my eyes and I have sent an email requesting from where the Data actually came from.

According to this news Release from Eurostat

http://epp.eurostat.ec.europa.eu/cache/ … -AP-EN.PDF

The Average... YES AVERAGE Salary in Malta is €11.90 an Hour.... This equates to approx €25,000 (€24,752) a year based upon a 40 hour week.

SERIOUSLY THIS CANNOT BE TRUE .....

These Figures are being used on a website www.myenergyportalmalta.com to show the price of fuel based upon average wage...

at the moment malta shows 11th most expensive based upon wage but if you actually put in an average wage of €14,000 per year (6.73 per hour) then this would actually move Malta to the 5th Highest Price per wage in the whole of th e27 EU states.

Just thought I would share :)

I can believe it - its a simple average, not typical salary

georgeingozo

thats before tax, and includes employees and employers social security contributions - strip all those out and prob equates to an average of more like € 8 take home

In my experience, minimum wage (or marginally below) is the average wage offered for most jobs here.  If you then take off tax and Social Security.......

But sureley George, if they wanted to do this properley they would have had to get details from the Tax office and based it upon a per capita head count ??

or is this just the way to make numbers appear as they want them to ;)

Julian

georgeingozo

not per capita, as that would include people not working

it should be

total wages & salaries/(number of hours worked)

a few people on high salaries boost the average, and typically the simple average hourly rate is somewhat above the typical hourly rate

"The Average... YES AVERAGE Salary in Malta is €11.90 an Hour.... This equates to approx €25,000 (€24,752) a year based upon a 40 hour week."

it will be based on hours worked - assuming average person works 37 1/2 hours a week, and for 46 weeks a year,(assume 4 weeks holiday, 10 public holidays) = € 20,500 - take off 10% employers soc sec contributions and thats a gross salary of € 18,000
