Local fish

biddy

We were advised at the Marsaxlokk fish market to buy Mazzola for a fish stew - looked like baby shark - what is it?

and as a Diving Instructor and A.W.A.R.E Instructor at that I am disgusted everytime that i go into the Marsaxxlok market every Sunday... Unfortunatley I have not been able to view any of the creatures in Maltese Water... Fish to near extinction here !!

Thank you for this information. Obviously nothing is being done to prevent this practice as we saw many mazzola for sale as well as what I suspect are undersized fish. The fishermen are as brazen as the hunters. A sad state of affairs.

very very sad bridget.....but the authorities seem powerless to stop it or are they just too apathetic.

scubaboy

They are not powerless... there is just an election round the corner...

The fisherman need education in this, they are even catching Moray eels now as well...

As an A.W.A.R.E instuctor, please post a list of non- endangered fish so that we know what to buy or look for in future. For non- Maltese the names and species of fish are confusing.
