What are these all about - why do they need to know such in depth info.....?

Hi toon,

I already posted on our visit from the Census lady:

https://www.expat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=122955

Under EU law all countries are required to assess things about their population every 10 years. I'm not sure if the questions are the same for all EU countries but it would make sense.

All residents are obliged to fill in the forms but I'm not sure how they would enforce it if you don't. Theoretically they can.

Cheers

sorry ricky - must ve missed that one

dont have a problem with it just it seems so intrusive as regards the type of questions asked when id say they werent relevant..especially the ones you highlighted in your earlier post

Hi toon,

keep us updated on how things go when the Census comes to collect the forms -))))

With the usual lack of enforcement in Malta probably nothing will happen !

yay good to hear this then. I don't like the questions either. Government doesn't need to know that stuff.

Hi all,

I did not say that it won't be enforced.

The form itself says ' ..all residents are obliged by law to respond to the questionaire and any person who fails or refuses to provide information may be subject to legal action '

I can only guess what the word 'may' means in Malta -))))

they only call between 330 and 8 weekdays and 8-12 ish sat and sun...the good old malti dont answer their doors evenings......so how does that work and most work those hours anyway...again how does that work.

you are quite right ricky but then am not happy at some of the more personal questions and really dont see a reason for them being asked "when was your first "live" birth?  whats that all about...when were you first married - like what if you have been married 3/4 times how does that help a census.

Q....as the whole EU are doing this - is the census form asking the same questions...i think not.

I distrust the need for the more personal information and the means by which it is gathered, its meant to be confidential yet its handed openly (not sealed) to an enumerator we dont know and why should we trust him/her.

our form was meant to be collected last night but as in the usual malti stylee nobody turned up so hey ho first battle won. But am sure he will be back and thats when i shall kick off.
