English O Level/GCSE tuition

165721

My partner will be joining me soon, and we are thinking what she can do. She is a highly experienced English teacher (literature) being the second in her department back in the UK.

I was wondering what the demand is for private tuition, perhaps for English kids who want to keep up to date with UK curricula, Maltese kids who will be moving into the UK eduction system through a family move, or Maltese kids interested in bettering their English through studying English literature to UK curricula?

The age range would be 11 to 16.

If there is a perceived demand, what are the prices out there for private, highly experienced, tutors from the real world of teaching?

I wish your wife had been here in February!  My daughter has just taken her English Cambridge iGCSE (Language)which she took as an external candidate.  Fortunately, her tutor from Spain was amazing and reached above and beyond for her.  The problem we are having is for her to take her literature exam but we so far have had no luck finding somewhere that offer 1. the iGCSE in Literature and 2. that they will take an external candidate.

If in her search she comes across somebody who can cater for the above, please let me know.

Many thanks and good luck.

Thank you. If I may be so bold, could you tell me what rates you paid for tuition? PM if you like.

So do you think there would be a demand for this kind of tutoring? If you find somewhere to do the literature exam, I assume you will be needing it?

By the way, her name is Julia, and I am assuming you must be something like that!

I have suggested to her she tried to find some information out about the IGCSE also...

Hiya,  my apologies for not coming back to you sooner, I did see the message and then it slipped my mind.

For her tutor in Spain we were paying 10 euro per hour (which normally became 2 hours at no extra cost).  She eventually became a dear friend of the family...   I did have a google for tutors in Malta and if you follow the links you will often find listings for them and the rates that they charge.

Going by the difficulty I am having finding resources to take the Literature exam (I am looking for CIE not Edexcel) I am not sure what the demand for tutoring in this will be.  English language however will probably have more.

Also, often the schools and colleges advertise for tutors.
www.etc.gov.mt is a good one to monitor as is googling for job type.

The times of malta is also a good source for employment, particularly on a Sunday, it is also online.

My daughters tutor from Spain is continuing her tuition remotely from Spain and I will continue with her as they have good history together.

Keep looking though.xx good luck

Thanks for your reply.

I have Googled English Literature tutors in Malta (Google Language and it just comes up with English as a foreign language which isn't the aim) but it always comes to the same places with no idea of rates, and none of them ever reply to email!

There are a couple of places that do a Literature O-Level, and getting to these students would be ideal, but I'm not sure how...

Thanks for the ETC and Times tips, we will keep an eye.

Hopefully we can find somehow of getting in touch with some interested parties in the near future...

Cheers!
