Dreambox 2

mikea

This was a good subject that got somewhat diverted in the original posting so maybe those actually interested in the DREAMBOX situation can post here and those wishing to squabble can stay on the other one.

Not having much knowledge of Dreambox units, it appears that there are genuine dreamboxes and a whole raft of copies / clones. Does anyone have any clues upon which are which or how to identify the differences?

and does anybody use a dreambox with a satellite dish to pick up the UK FTA channels successfully?

that's very good news indeed.

re the dreambox situation, is everyone experiencing service interruption or is it just me?

I think that there is problems at the moment due to the Weather... something like leaves on the tracks i think...

Going back to the Discussion... This will show the difference in the DM 500 model... unfortunatley i think the only way to find out is inside the machines.

You will find that most suppliers in Malta supply the Original as they also give a 2 year warranty.  Although i honestly don't know if there is that much difference in the quality of the product as i cant seem to find out any info re this..

What i would like to know from people is whether there is much difference between Humax, Technomate, spiderbox etc.. all different type of linux boxes that seem to do the same thing ... Seem being the operative word as again I dont know that much about the different systems.

as the D500s has been out of production for a good few years now its unlikely any new ones will be originals....clones more likely

cant say i've noticed any break in service.

high winds do affect the transmissions as does a loose dish.

I suspect the range of FTA channels receivable will be highly dependant on the size of your dish

I suspect the police investigation is leaving some effects. Today's news from the UK puts local cable/terrestrial supplier in place but won't solve the dreambox issue.

The Issue with the Dreambox is that the cardsharing part is illegal and that is what is being complained about, now the ruling IMHO would allow us to use cards from abroad in Dreambox, therefore allowing free mobility of cards within the EU.

So you will be able and legally entitled to take your Sky card with you abroad and use it in any receiver.

Unfortunately, it ain't over till the fat lady sings so not only has the UK High Court got to 'rubber stamp' the EU findings (expected either late this year or early 2012) but now apparently the premiership and Sky patent lawyers are looking at ways to include copyright items randomly within the original stream... at least for the duration of the current contract!

Will they be allowed to do that... again the jury is out!
